El bolero
—
Premiere on June 9,2024 at Festival Kaldearte from Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain)
Zuriñe Benavente
“El Bolero” is a 16-minute dance solo conceived for unconventional spaces based on Maurice Ravel’s iconic symphonic piece. The work invites us on a journey to the roots of dance, where the body and music meet face to face in a pure and direct relationship, full of authenticity.
✴︎ The bolero does not pretend to be. That’s it.

In a world saturated with images, bombastic aesthetics and great special effects, “El Bolero” is presented as an oasis of simplicity and authenticity. Fifteen minutes of hypnotic and repetitive music merge with a dance that captures the viewer, turning them into an active subject of the artistic experience.
The arrangement of the public around a stage at ground level five meters in diameter creates an intimate and close space, where spectators become active accomplices of the work. The action constantly surrounds and challenges them, transforming them into protagonists of the artistic experience. Each performance is unique, generating unrepeatable moments of connection between the dance and the audience.
